The Hip

The Big Music Fest is set to take place in three cities according to its website. Bobcaygeon, ON on June 25, 2011; Belleville, On and Owen Sound, ON. The dates and line-ups for the latter 2 events have not been announced. I will keep you posted as the Big Music Fest website seems to have some speed/load-time issues. Although I don't anticipate The Hip to be at all three events, I am sure there will be a nice comfy section for all of the VIPs. Probably right in front of all the good sight-lines.

I spent the last week up in Seattle and unfortunately couldn't post this beforehand. The Toronto Maple Leafs honored Bill Barilko on Saturday night. Here's a link to ChloƩ Fedio's article in the Toronto Star.

Can I bring any supplies to this concert.. blanket, chair, drugs or anything..?

I would think that blankets and drugs should be fine... Chairs are lame though.

When will the laws start punishing and/or stop the online scalpers? I've just scrolled through dozens of ads on kijiji asking $250 per ticket (general admission). I paid $61 total for mine but some of my friends missed out. They don't really care because they'll be sitting on a houseboat next to the stage enjoying the tunes. so...feck you scalpers!!! Hope you get stuck with the tickets.

Why should laws punish scalpers? It's free enterprise. If they have someting you want, you are free to decide if, at their price you want what they offer. If you don't think that it is of value to you at that price, don't buy it. Jeez. A friend of mine used to complain that the downtown parking lot she used for work everyday would pretty much double its prices on days when the Blue Jays were playing at home. I would try to explain to her that the guy providing the parking spots was free to charge whatever he wanted. If on those days she didn't feel paying that price for a parking spot was a value proposition for her, she was free to park elsewhere. I never understood why she would begrudge that guy charging whatever he could get on any given day.

The reason people are unhappy about scalpers is because they generally buy out as many tickets as possible for the original price, then inflate the price to double, triple, or more of the original cost. Sure, you can choose to not buy tickets at such and inflated price but at that point there are no other alternatives beacuse the scalpers have bought all the originally priced tickets! OF COURSE Its complete bull shit!!
BTW, your friend is right to complain about the outlandish parking costs during events, for the same reason, the prices are hiked because they can! There's no where else to park your car!!

On that note.. Go Hip Go! lol

I think a lot of the problems stem from, and what gets people really frustrated, are the scalping syndicates and online bot programs designed to just go crazy grabbing everything in sight for what's known to be a popular event. The ticket companies do themselves no favors by operating their own secondary ticket site where it looks to the public as if they are getting paid twice.

You like to see when real fans have an extra they pass it along to other fans at cost. There's always some loser that buys an extra or two trying to get a free show. While annoying, these folks do not do the damage that the syndicates do.

It's going to be up to the bands pretty soon to protect their fans because nobody else will. Maybe names printed on non-transferable tickets although that's not the perfect fix either.

I'm all for free enterprise, but buying up the entire supply of something just to create huge demand does not represent natural market conditions. It becomes a false market.

I wish we hadn't gone. Logistical nightmare. People waiting for hours to get to the concert. 3-4 hour wait for beer. We waited the entire Sam Roberts set for food. The sound was terrible. Then complete chaos trying to get the shuttle buses out. The Hip should be embarrassed to have been a part of this mayhem.

A lot of this comes down to some stupid Canadian laws... The same laws that prevent the CFL from excelling and the same laws that will prevent both the NFL and NASCAR from having any success here. Why you can't show ID & get a bracelet and then be poured beer from anywhere and then take it anywhere in said venue is beyond me. A show of the same proportions would have been silky smooth anywhere in the US. Anyone who attended the Hip's show at Rochester's Highland Bowl probably knows what I'm talking about. I currently find myself living in Las Vegas and there's no where you can't buy/take a drink here. Out of one place, across the street, into another. Hell, you can go the grocery store and drink a 6er beside your car in the parking lot. Creating a 'holding pen' for the drinkers probably caused more chaos than I ever see here. And that's saying something.

Thanks for your thoughts.

It was a disaster. The most unorganized venue I have ever attended.

Made the trip from Buffalo to see the show. If you want to see them in a nice, organized setting where it doesn't take HOURS to get a bear or a bloomin' onion check them in Buffalo, NY on July 30th.

The total lack of security by the organizers and the police at the end of the concert was a disgrace. School buses and limos were stuck in the the mud, and being pushed by people. Metail barriers were still in place and coralled people into confined pathways, some gates were knocked down and were being stepped over..The potential for mishap and serious injury was extremly high. Our group made a hasty exit to the paved road on foot.

what a let down, waiting in line to get beer tickets, only to be able to get four.Waiting in line again to get in the beer garden and once again waiting in line to finally get two beers at a time.I missed most of the show waiting in line, it wouldn't have been so bad if the sound was good. Poor quality and no volume. What a waste of time! Big Hip Fan
